How gun-related trauma is anything but rare.

At the age of 8, I watched my 10-year-old sister stumble to the floor while holding the right side of her abdomen. “She* shot me,” my sister Row said, before taking a deep breath. Knowing her as a jokester, I initially thought she was kidding. It wasn’t until I saw the blood start to seep through her fingers that I realized the actual horror that thwarted the entire course of my family’s lives. I have since referred to this event as “the Accident” . . .
